Our Story
Avondale Raiders is a welcoming, volunteer-run junior basketball club where players of all abilities can develop their skills, build confidence and enjoy being part of a team.
For nearly 40 years, Avondale Raiders Basketball Club has created opportunities for local children to play, develop and belong.
Where it Began
The Raiders began with a single team founded by Peter Jukes so his son and his friends could play in a local basketball competition. As interest in basketball grew, the club expanded, with Peter serving as President, Treasurer, Coach and much more.
From the beginning, Peter was determined to make basketball accessible to every child. He often personally covered game fees and uniform costs for families experiencing financial hardship, establishing the inclusive and community-minded spirit that continues to guide the club today.
Continuing the Legacy

In 2016, the club formally added “Avondale” to its name and logo, recognising its strong connection to the local area and the families it served.
